Udon is Delicious
July 23, 2009, 14:53 EST

I really should pay more attention.

My work for the Udon Darkstalkers book was revealed! You can check it out here. I was asked to do a piece for it months ago, and I ended up waiting till the last minute. My favorite fan images are when the subjects are plopped in a different setting or are slightly reimagined. So I went with a semi Disgaea style, being true to myself.

Makes me happy to finally be able to share this one.

I've got the dwarf bug again
July 21, 2009, 19:00 EST

This comic came about because my fortresses always seem to be loaded with enough food, alcohol, clothing, furniture and assorted luxury goods to last a hundred years, but I've always got an underclass of homeless dwarves with barely a penny to their name.

(Actually, regarding the comic, do non-legendary shop owners buy the stock they sell? I'm not sure.)

The new release seems to be coming along. I'm looking forward to being able to draft recruits into the military without my elite soldiers breaking their spines during sparring sessions.

Dorfs are Awesome
July 21, 2009, 04:52 EST

I personally see the world of Bay 12's Dwarf Fortress as I depict it in the comics. A gray, dark world populated by iconic, self-lit characters. Though I play the game with a sprite sheet.

Matt, I'm pretty sure, just sees Algebra Vomit.

All it wants to do is outcompete native species, give off an appealing licorice aroma and have a delicious bulb. Is that so wrong?

S-Words and Demons
July 7, 2009, 04:10 EST

Seems Matt wandered in on one of those crazy pod casts over at S-words.

Been rather occupied of late, but in my down time I have managed to play some Demon's Souls. Now yeah, the NA version isn't out till October, but I'll be picking that version up too, if only to support Atlus bringing this kind of game over. I'm quite enjoying the game, despite many a curse slipping from my lips in it's name.

The asynchronous multiplayer is fantastic. You can leave little, refrigerator, jumble style memo's for other players in the world giving them hints or advice. You can also see the blood stains of the players who've fallen before you. Clicking these stains show you that player's final moments. Combine these two features and you have some really interesting results.

Hmm... That player's blood stain just showed him fall over dead for no reason in the middle of that bridge. Weird. Hey, a note! "It's safe here." huh? The hell does tha-
HOLY SHIT DRAGON ZOMG TORCH TORCH

Where the multiplayer fails, is in the er... synchronous multiplayer. That is to say, co-op. When you die in this game, you revert to a weak ghost form. In order to join some one else, you must be a ghost. In order to invite some one else, you must be alive. To be alive, you must use an item, or kill a non-respawning boss demon or, help another player defeat a boss. However, due to game mechanics, you should kill yourself as soon as you get your body back at the game's hub so as not to screw up your stats. (Don't ask). So this leaves me wondering...

Who's left alive to start a party?

Should Adult Swim show Nockforce shorts?

I kind of think they should show some Nockforce shorts.

It wasn't a happy ending for Mr. Peterson.
June 24, 2009, 01:33 EST

According to chapter 11 of EroticaBiz,

The jury acquitted Peterman after just 2-1/2 hours of deliberation.
Despite his acquittal, he had already been severely punished by the
process. Peterman said the ordeal left him bankrupt and the lengthy
prosecution led to his divorce. His foes rejoiced in Peterman’s misfortune.

According to the Provo Herald, “Gayle Ruzicka, president of the
local chapter of the national Eagle Forum, also claimed victory. ‘We
won what we wanted,’ she said. ‘There are no longer Movie Buffs
stores in the county.’”

(Yeah, contrary to the script, charges weren't dropped, he was acquitted. That's my bad.)

In Nomine Patre...
June 22, 2009, 00:41 EST

Hey'o.

Since the comic isn't quite ready yet, I thought I'd share one of my more successful drawing exercises. See, while I may create art for a living at a game company, I don't get a lot of practice drawing at work. So, I try and have a nightly doodle. Very few I actually share with people, though, as they are just practice.

So anyway, this doodle is of my Xbox-live avatar.

I treat my 360 avatar not as a representation of myself but instead as a mascot for my dashboard, my gaming liaison if you will.

Lastly, given it's still Sunday where I'm posting this, happy Father's Day, Ace.

Dad pulled a bimalleolar fracture

It looks kind of like this, but the easiest way to describe it is "You know how when you put your heels up on something, your feet point up and don't flop over uselessly to the side? He broke the bones that keep that from happening."

Creativity comes from not being happy with what you have.
June 16, 2009, 03:56 EST

Yeah, I'm not yet content with how the site looks yet. These rant boxes aren't quite up to par. (Black on white isn't exactly eye friendly in digital form.) I think we'll be switching format completely with the site at some point. So don't expect the dust to settle just yet.

Unrelated, this sound track has been keeping me company at work these days. Afro Samurai, while kind words are rarely said of your game, the music was beyond a success.

When I got off work and returned to my home, this evening, there was a package waiting for me. The address said Irvine, CA...

Just wanted to send a thanks to the Blizzard members responsible for getting the comic prize out here. Your games help me unwind in my off hours. I hope our comic can provide a bit of that in return for you.

PS: The signatures are a nice touch.

Pod Cast
June 11, 2009, 13:07 EST

Almost forgot. I'm a guest host for both podcasts this week over at S-Words.

The first is up and it's about E3 2009. You can give a listen here. I felt pretty confident about this one as it was actually a topic a know something about as compared to the anime one I did a few weeks back.

I'll make sure to post when the second one goes up.

When the Ian and Matt are Away.
June 9, 2009, 04:19 EST

Dom and Jes stepped up to do a comic while Matt and I are occupied with our own situations. Perhaps when these two powers unite, they form the perfect storm?

But yeah... Dom palms my cats' crotches... I think he's just trying to prove dominance in the house.
