Mister scruffy has officially aged another year today.
Happy birthday, Matt.

I thought Scott Pilgrim was a hell of a lot of fun

Just the kind of movie that puts a big old grin on your face. If you haven't seen it, maybe you should!

I am rediculously behind on my Inbox...
August 17, 2010, 17:11 EST
My inbox is really really backed up. I've very sorry about that. I certainly hope that my silence has not caused the thought of 'he doesn't care' 'cause that shit ain't true.
Receiving feed back is a crucial part of improving my own work and I can't do that if I ignore what I'm given. So, thank you for you words, they are greatly appreciated and I hope to reply to as many of them as possible.
Just note that I've failed English 112 three times in college, so please forgive any wandering commas.

Getting over a little infection I developed over the weekend. I'll see if I can't at least toss up a sketch or two for you guys in the mean time. See ya.

Finally

It took me forever to track down where the idea for this comic originally came from, but I found it.
Guest Comic Month: #5 Xero
May 31, 2010, 01:33 EST
The last guest comic. Thank you, Xero. I'm sorry I don't have a lot more to say, I'm a little out of it at the moment as I'm about to jump on a plain and I'm pretty sure it's officially 'ass-o'clock'.
Xero has always been a nice fellow, ever willing to share what he's working on. I find seeing some one's sketch work to be like seeing divine secrets revealed. As if the architect himself has left his plans unwatched and I get to examine the construction of their world. This is what I often find in my im windows when I come back from lunch, and it always makes my day.

Guest Comic Month: #4 Ananth & Yuko
May 24, 2010, 15:35 EST
Jes here; A big thanks to Ananth and Yuko over at Johnny Wander! I was so excited when they were able to pencil a guest comic into their schedule for us, but now that we have it; we're all a little jealous of Yuko's overwhelming ability to draw cute things.
Ian first ran into Yuko years ago when she gave him a moogle sticker. It's still on one of his monitors. I was privileged enough to meet Ananth at Otakon 2003 when I joined the Mac Hall Crew. We don't get to see them much anymore; but when we do it's always a nice and amusing time.
Thanks again to Ananth and Yuko and head over to Johnny Wander for some awesomely cute art and very smart writing.

Guest #3
May 17, 2010, 19:14 EST
Today's comic is by Garth of Finders Keepers
We know Garth from the East Coast con scene, but I don't have any good anecdotes about him. I have one about his partner on Comedity, Larom, but it's about how his long-time rock-climbing partner didn't know he did a webcomic until she saw he was the only mutual friend we had on Facebook. It's not really that interesting. I'm just going to skip it.
Hey! We did an interview at alltern8.com. It was over Skype, so you'll occasionally see some chat confusion where Ian thinks I'm talking to him and I'm not. (Some of the transcription also got a little garbled. For instance, "token version" should be "total conversion".)

Guest Comic Month: #2 Lem
May 10, 2010, 13:33 EST
This week's guest comic brought to us by the kind and talented Lem of Bunny.
We continue with the theme of do something three panels, but Matt further added, try something you normally wouldn't do. Judging from above and the usual lepus based ventures, I'd say mission accomplished.
Who did we rope in for next week? We'll find out Monday. (Presumably when I remember to hit the update button on the site...)

Guest Comic Month: #1 Pana Stamos
May 3, 2010, 04:27 EST
This week's comic thanks to the skilled hands of Pana. The creator of the lovely webcomic Machine Flower. Perhaps you remember me linking the comic in the past?
Well, work has been getting more and more time consuming for me as I crunch. So, Matt, Jes, and I agreed to hunt down and hound various creators of swanky comics to make some guest strips for us to post while I disappear for the month. The only restriction we gave them:
It must be three panels.
Again, Pana is our first offering for the month. If you dig, stop by her site. It's full of even more swank! You can check out some of her other illustration work over here as well.
Who has answered our call for next week?

Dwarf Fortress has been updating
April 18, 2010, 01:25 EST
The main page has the latest version as always, v.03 at the time of writing.
It seems considerably more stable now. It's still wonky in places and there's some confounding bugs, but I think it's playable with caveats. For instance, if you're relying on anything but physics or fluids traps to stop sieges, you're doing it wrong. (You could argue this was always the case, but it's enforced now.)
Maybe more importantly, Dwarf Therapist is more or less working. I don't know how I ever played without that utility.
Ian's more excited about Stonesense, but I'm pretty acclimated to the ASCII at this point.
If you've been to Las Vegas, you're familiar with the points and cards.
I was there recently to visit my parents at see the Beatles Cirque du Soleil show. By the way, if you think webcomics have t-shirt merchandising perfected, Vegas has it at a whole new level.
It seems a little like Dave & Buster's or Chuck-E-Cheese. In fact, I think I saw some of the ticket redemption machines repurposed as games of chance, but I wouldn't swear to it. Unlike D&B, though, Vegas doesn't entice you into playing by showing you what you can buy with X number of points. In fact, if you click that top link, you'll find vague promises and not much else. Maybe they show you a menu after you fully register your card, I don't know.
It doesn't really matter, though. The card is more than enough to accomplish the goal of keeping you dropping quarters* in their machines instead of the machines down the street. They're points, man. It must be better to have more than less.
*Figuratively speaking. I didn't actually see any slots that accept quarters on the strip.
